This project aims to enhance our community’s resilience and preparedness in emergencies.
Made possible by Kainga Rua funding from Te Puni Kōkiri (TPK), this initiative is transforming the Ko Te Ra Matiti marae into a fully equipped Civil Defense Station. The marae is receiving significant infrastructure upgrades and resource enhancements to ensure it can provide crucial services such as shelter, food, medical aid, and communication facilities during emergencies.
The project also includes regular training for marae kaimahi in emergency response, stockpiling essential supplies, and maintaining equipment in optimal condition. This proactive approach not only prepares the marae for crisis situations but also strengthens its day-to-day operational capabilities and resourcefulness.
We’re excited about the progress we’ve made so far and look forward to sharing more updates as we continue to enhance the marae’s emergency preparedness capabilities. The goal is for the marae to not only be a place of cultural significance but also a stronghold of safety and support in times of need.
