Part-time, whānau volunteer role, 0-16 hrs per week.
Background
Ngāti Hei ki Wharekaho has around 500 registered iwi members on its tribal registry. The vast majority of these whanaunga live away from the rohe. Less than 100 would be ahi kā. This presents an obvious and on-going communication challenge: How to maintain a sense of connection to place and people.
This becomes even more important as Ngāti Hei moves into a Post-Settlement era and has newly acquired whenua and resources for social, cultural and economic revitalisation. Our ability to engage and bring whānau along on the journey, depends on our ability to connect and engage with them.
In this role as Communications & Events Coordinator you will play a pivotal role in engaging whānau and bringing them along on the journey.
You will report to, and work closely with the Chair of the Hei o Wharekaho Settlement Trust ensuring that the mana and authority of your work in communications to the iwi katoa comes from the top. You will work closely with other people across the entirety of Ngāti Hei Group (HoWST and subsidiary organisations) as well as the other Trust Board Chairs and Secretaries. This ensures that we can meet the needs of all NH organisations to reach the iwi katoa / beneficiary roll. You will also develop a close working relationship with our operational leadership – Tiaki Whenua, Tiaki Moana, Āwhina Tangata – ensuring we are documenting and reporting on the successes of our programmes.
The backbone of our communications is via Web and Social Media channels – primarily Facebook, with plans to expand to Instagram and other platforms. Our current goal is quarterly pānui with on-going FB updates.
In the event space, you will work closely with our Kaiwhakahaere / Administrative Lead to support any iwi events. This includes standard fixtures like AGMs and SGMs, but also includes hui (in person and online), wānanga and haerenga. Your job will be to develop the campaigns around these events, maximising attendance and support what is needed for content preparation and output reporting around each.
This role has been a part-time volunteer position since its establishment in 2020. We anticipate that, in time, it would become a core function for Ngāti Hei Group.
We will support the right volunteer with relevant skills training and tools.
